Another history has been made in the Congregation of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ as Sr. Kelechi Ifoegbu professed her final vows on 13th November 2015. This marks the second perpetual vows in Nigeria at Mount Carmel Catholic Church Emekuku, Owerri Archdiocese, hence bringing the number of perpetual professed sisters to nine. The final vows she made signify that she has committed herself finally to the religious life and permanently in the Congregation of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ.
Sister Kelechi pronounced the vows of chastity, obedience and poverty. These vows are spiritual virtues which make a sister committed to the Catholic faith and her religious family.
The ceremony and Mass of the final profession started at 10:00 am. It was presided over by the Archbishop of Owerri Archdiocese, his Grace Archbishop Anthony J.V. Obinna, Fr. Alex Okoro the Parish priest and other Priests. The angelic voices of the formation groups of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ echoed during the Mass together with the Parish choir of Mount Carmel.
In the homily of His Grace Anthony J.V.Obinna, he described consecrated life as a Marriage with God. A total consecration of a young lady or man to God; becomes a special relation, even though it is not a sacrament. He says this type of marriage which is divine and mystic requires special prayers for perseverance, it is cherished by those who love God and not by flesh.
